Happy 1st Birthday little Rowan. I can't believe one year has passed since you entered this world! We love you to pieces & wish you many more.
It is also my Mom's birthday today! She is still celebrating her NFL team's win {Ravens} yesterday in St. Augustine, Florida. Enjoy your day Mom! Love you ~

Why does it seem that some days, weeks, or even months drag on, but when you blink your eye your little one is celebrating his eighth birthday? Steve and I can't figure it out. There were days when he wouldn't nap as a baby & I couldn't wait for Steve to get home and 'rescue me.' Now he cracks us up with his witty sense of humor {and others too}. He is a great student & is coming into his own with sports. We are proud of the young man he is becoming and celebrated with him today at the local fire house. We agreed to host one grade school party for each of the boys where they get to invite their entire class. Happy Birthday bean! xoxo Shout out to Avondale Fire Company! They have a great venue to hold a party & even gave all the kids a ride around the fire house. Thank you for all you do in our community & for making William's 8th Birthday one to remember.
I think I have mentioned it before, but I love the time I have in the car with both boys before school. I take them to school to avoid the long bus ride for the little one. Well, it is one of my favorite moments in our day. No radio . . . just the 3 of us chatting. Last week {Election Day} William started asking about who I was voting for. Not wanting to jade his view or give him the impression that he should follow my lead, I asked him who he thought might make a good president. He immediately said, "Betty White." He listed off the reasons: her last name is White, like in White House, she is old (he equates old people as being smart), and she is funny (he remembers seeing commercials from her prankster show). I enjoyed hearing his view and left it at that. As he was getting out of the car for school, he continued, "And if Betty White doesn't win then I think Marack Bambama should be President."
We spent the weekend in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware enjoying the Sea Witch Festival. They cancelled all events for Sunday due to the "Frankenstorm" headed our way. We got see the local television stations begin reporting live from the boardwalk, along with a crew from The Weather Channel. Benjamin walked up to one of the reporters from The Weather Channel and asked why the waves were so big. He told him it was because there was a "big and crazy storm in the ocean." Even though we cut our weekend short to prepare for the storm, we had a great time with great friends & are looking forward to next year. xoxo We spent the afternoon with my brother Bryan & his family at the Darlington Apple Festival. The kids had a great time together & we got to spend a nice fall day outdoors. Bryan took a pretty nice family picture of us {bonus}! We hope you are enjoying Autumn
Here we go again: It hasn't even been a year since completing our biggest project to date {the kitchen} and we are working on yet another project. We have had a crew here all week excavating the old concrete behind the house & framing for the new concrete to go in early next week. Once the entire project is complete {early next summer we hope} we will have a new patio, pergola, and a deck right off the kitchen. We are really excited to have this new space to enjoy evenings together & entertain. We will keep you posted! Thanks for checking in. xoxo
I have always wanted to be a better meal planner. I learned that my grandmother meal plans (monthly) and my best friend meal plans (weekly). In the past I have had grandiose ideas for meal planning; spent hours looking through cook books, buying plenty of ingredients, and trying new foods that unfortunately the kids didn't particularly care for. However, it just never seemed to click for me. So, this past week I had a mission: Finish the month of August & complete September. 7 weeks of meals planned. Head to BJ's Wholesale & stock up (I mean completely stock up: 8 lbs of ground beef, 10 lbs of chicken, 16 pork chops, fish fillets, burgers, 2 pork tenderloins, spiral ham, pulled pork, blah blah blah). I won't tell you the grand total {unless you ask} but we saved over $90.00 in coupons. Oh, and we purchased plenty of lunch fillers for back-to-school (applesauce, pudding, juice, milk, crackers) which added to our outrageous total! Anyway, after carrying it all in the house I 'repackaged' it all into meal sized servings & stored it away. I am happy to say I am a few ingredients shy (small items like soy sauce, white beans, black beans) of having 7 weeks of meals planned & ready to be prepared. I also have a master grocery list that reflects the 7 weeks of meals planned. Most of the meals are family favorites & there are a few repeats over the course of the 7 weeks. However, I added a few new recipes into the mix and plan to do so during the next rotation. I feel empowered & less stressed with the start of school, football, and fall baseball season upon us. Cheers to less stress!
