Well, we have been creating green monsters for a few days now {successfully} thanks to the help & guidance from my friend Becky {can't thank you enough}! Benjamin and I paid her a visit last week & she had us try one of her smoothies. I was hooked after witnessing Ben drink every last drop out of my cup! We ordered a blender (beleive it or not, I have never had one) and picked up lots of organic vegetables & some fruit. And we blended. The boys watched intently as I added the ingredients: about 4 chopped apples, 4-5 cups of fresh spinach, 1 cup of blueberries, and a cup of ice water. They watched as it turned colors & became a nice appetizing hue of greenish/brown. Then we all tasted. William proclaimed, " tastes too salad'y'." We all agreed with his description. So, I took their glasses, dumped them back into the blender and added a banana. Repeat. They drank every last drop! I love that my boys are adventurous & trustworthy enough to allow me to 'fix' something before they completely snub it. We plan to start every morning with a green monster!

We were able to spend some time celebrating the January birthdays this past weekend. Part of our day was spent at the Conowingo Dam. It was cold, but the boys had a great time. Steve & I also became an Aunt & Uncle again! Jeff & Emily welcomed baby Rowan Libby on Friday, January 13th, 2012. Congratulations Mom, Dad, & big brother Graham. We love you!
One of my favorite things is going 'treasure hunting' or 'thrifting.' Typically my sidekick, Ben, accompanies me on my journeys. I have a list of 'AlWaYs LoOkInG fOr' items (vintage linens & terry towels for repurposing, storage ideas, Pyrex {small addiction with the nesting mixing bowls}, and gently used boys clothes. I have been known to score GAP jeans with tags for $3.00/pair. I wanted to share what our finds were this week, along with keeping you updated on how I utilize them in our home or for the shop. Enjoy! Items purchased included:
3 Pottery Barn Teen pillows: Typically I am not a fan of purchasing pillows {too similar to stuffed animals which is a No No for us & the allergies}. However, I saw this set of 3 machine washable/dryable pillows (removable pillow cases). Both pillow forms & cases were washed in hot water & dryer. Like new! They are in the boys reading nook. $6.00 total. 7 plain wood napkin rings: Craft coming soon. I love using cloth napkins for dinner & am crafting some creative fabric covered rings. Photos coming soon! $1.00 total. 1 GAP button-up denim'ish shirt (in style right now): With tags attached. Wore it today with my ponte pants & shawl. Boots to boot! $1.88 total. 1 Vintage pillowcase: Nothing like vintage! $1.00 total. 1 Black 8 x 10 picture frame. Finally framed a piece of art that I have had for the craft room. $1.00 1 Vintage terry towel repurposed into 2 unique bibs (for sale in my etsy shop). $1.00 (pictured below) Steve made it home from work early today. We decided to take a Winter Walk at our local park {all 5 of us}. Even though it was COLD & WiNdY, we had a great time! We topped off the evening with hot cocoa, homemade pizza, and the movie "Mr. Popper's Penguins." Cheers to a great weekend!
A typical 'work day' for me involves sewing around 2:00 in the afternoon while watching the Nate Berkus show. He always features creative people that love thrifting, creating, and DIY {like me}! I took inventory in the house of a few of our projects that I am proud of. Enjoy! Our William turns 7 tomorrow! We can't believe it. He loves Angry Birds so as a surprise we are sending him to school with some Angry Bird Food {cheerios, sixlets, raisins} to share with his friends.
Super easy to make, a healthier {peanut free} option as opposed to the traditional cupcakes, & cute to boot! We know he will love sharing these with his friends. Cheers to a happy, healthy, & prosperous New Year!
