Our beautiful girl is such a joy. Syndey brings such a fun dynamic to our family. She enjoyed her first boat ride and trusted us to get into Big Bertha. We floated her to the sand bar where she was able to swim/run in the water.
Next up: SUP!

It takes a special kind of man to be able to encourage your child to walk out onto a mat and face their fears - alone. It is hard and exhausting, both mentally and physically. Win or lose, they embrace their children and take a minute to be a father. Then they return to coaching, pointing out what worked well and what didn't. It is a constant flip-flop. Yet, they gracefully wear both hats, filling their children's needs in every moment.
Sometimes I question the line Steve walks; dad or coach. But in reality, who am I? While I am their mother, I am also a partner with my husband. I have to trust he will know when to be a 'coach' and when to be 'daddy.' In my heart, I know he knows. However, letting him have the control in deciding when to switch hats is hard for me. Tears streaming, bloodied and bruised, they are still my babies. I realize in order for this to benefit our boys the way we hope it will, I can't be in control. Honestly, I need to remain a bit flat in my emotions. I simply need to remain in the stands, praising their efforts- not the outcome of their efforts. For as emotionally charged as wrestling is in a three minute period, in reality it is a marathon - not a sprint. It is the life lessons along the way that will shape them into respectable young men. I admire the friendship and respect these men have for one another. They treat all of our kids in this tight club as their own. I trust them to continue to work on raising our boys to be coachable, respectful, and brotherly with their team. xoxo Note: We are missing several of our coaches in the above picture! Flanked by our wonderful neighbors, we headed out for our first evening on the bay to watch the fireworks. Navigating the waters of the Rehoboth Bay can be tricky during the day with such shallow water and plenty of sandbars, but night wasn't something we had tried before. Our loving and caring neighbors were headed out as well, and felt the need to 'sandwich us' as we headed out and back in. We are more than blessed with our new friends!
The water was filled with boats galore, all hoping to catch a 360 degree view of fireworks from surrounding beaches. Once out we set our anchor and patiently waited as night fell upon us. Bethany Beach had the best and longest display. Paradise Grill and Dewey were wonderful to watch as well. As we watched the displays, we acknowledged how lucky and blessed we truly are and how forever grateful we are for our freedom. |
