I have been on a personal weight loss journey {well my entire adult-hood life it seems}. My commitment changed on April 26, 2013. I was feeling sluggish, overweight, having digestive issues, and was overall unhappy with who I saw when I looked in the mirror. I have never been a thin person by nature; built more muscular & athletic. But over the years (and two little ones later), my body has changed and I don't like it. I needed a change & I needed to dedicate myself to this change.
I have been doing plenty of reading & the bottom line; sugar is some bad stuff! I decided this was the one avenue I haven't wholeheartedly tried (giving up sugar and processed foods). Although my Mom told me for years, "Carbs are bad," I didn't think I had the strength to follow through. I don't like failure & eliminating carbs and sugar felt like a sure proof way to fail. How could I possibly give that stuff up? Here is how the last 3 weeks has looked for me: ~Weighed myself for the first time on Friday, May 10, 2013. ~ Registered a loss of -5.5 pounds after weighing in today (5/17/2013). ~Food journal & include how I am feeling as well ~Began 4 different work-out challenges & complete them everyday (20-40 minutes/daily) ~Diet consists of lean protein, vegetables, fruit, and a minimal amount of dairy. Sugar comes from fruit & all natural coffee creamer, which I still need to figure out. ~Failing to plan is planning to fail! I spend hours in the kitchen & constantly search for new recipes. I even make salad dressing these days! But, it is working! After the first few days of giving up the sugar & processed foods, I went through the 'carb flu.' I felt awful! I had a headache for 3 straight days. I can only speculate that this is similar to a person going through nicotine or drug withdrawal, but on a more minute scale. However, I am happy to report I don't crave sugar or processed foods. This is a huge step for me & my health! I hope this inspires you~ xoxo Traci
