The first official 'snow day' for these three. They played in the glittery powder until the sun began to set. Sledding & smiling, hearts full of nature's wonder. I pondered what I wanted to write regarding this post, as the scene was quite majestic. Winter is my season, the one I have always been fond of. As I watched them frolic, I decided to step off the sidelines and join them. My frozen fingers grabbed the vintage mint torpedo sled and I slid down the hill, boys chuckling as they witnessed this act. I chuckled as well, memories from my childhood flooding back. I have enjoyed sledding with the boys before, yet as I get older and the days grow colder, my tolerance for the bitterness and harshness of the season has slowed. We trekked up the hill behind our humble abode, preparing to make one last run. Sydney decided to join us as well, deliberately and purposefully bursting through the ineffective electric fence. She was dancing with us as we began to descend. At the bottom of the hill, Sydney gave my sled a tug, pulling on the ice covered string looped through the front. My heart smiled; brave, strong girl of mine. The commotion and laughter that filled the valley behind our home rustled some deer nesting by. This set off a chain reaction that I couldn't help share since my 'majestic scene' quickly changed. Four deer, leaping and running, charged out of the woods. In the moment, William yelled an explicit. Never in my life have I been so close to being trampled by a deer. Of course, Sydney decided it was her time to shine. Whether she was protecting us or following her natural instinct of herding, she charged. She chased the beasts from the valley and up over the hill, towards the road. Yet, she realized when to stop. {Our home sits on a little private lane that is only about one eighth of a mile from a main road} With a hundred feet left, she turned around and charged home with the same determination she left with. She was proud, I could see it in her eyes. William was not proud for yelling a four-letter word, of which he apologized for afterwards on his own accord. I am glad I captured a few pictures of the 'majestic scene', since my memory has imprinted the images of how fast life can change.
