Drexel Hill Winter Classic is a top 100 tournament, in the nation. It is an Ohio State Qualifier, filled to the brim with hammers, as the boys call them.
They did amazingly well given the tough competition. William was 1-2 for the day, Ben was 2-2. No trophy, but lessons learned. As we tell them, you only lose if you have learned nothing. Getting stronger, mentally and physically. Giving it their all, proving to themselves that they are good enough. We are so proud. #closingthegap Time has a funny way of sneaking up on you. Years ago, I remember William toddling around the house and my Dad mentioned, "One day, he is going to be back in those woods, looking around, exploring."
The woods are several acres of brush filled forest. Most evenings, a mob of deer quietly emerges, especially during winter. A sly fox or two have made the woods their home for years. These two, our sons, have tip toed around the edges for years, never daring to go deep into the brush. And in an instant, things changed. "We are going to the woods," William announced. So we let them. We let them be boys, explorers, hunters, fearless, and brave. We didn't give them a time to come home, check in, or a list of things not to do. It was a letting go moment, filled with trust and belief that they have the knowledge and common sense to keep safe. About an hour later we saw them in the valley of the woods, returning from their adventure. We let Sydney run through the thicket to be with them. They all returned, proud of what they found. Deer bones from Ben and an antler that William plans to use in his new room. Sydney, proud that she returned the boys to us. Most importantly, the boys were proud. They accomplished something we knew years ago they would. #growingup Four years worth of pictures, captions, and love letters. Our lives, memories, stored in the top of a closet for the last fifteen years. Unseen and forgotten.
I cleaned house and decided to scan the pages, one by one, reflecting on the life we have built. Originals tossed. The images will be converted into a coffee table book, proudly displayed in our home built on love. Exposed and real, for curious eyes to view where it all began . . . xoxo Nothing brightens our day than a random text! I love our friendship & sisterhood. I am beyond proud of the mama you continue to be to the loves in our lives.
While the boys still have a few tournaments left, the regular season is coming to a close. We continue to be proud of the boys and their efforts. |
