Steve and I made a decision this summer to take advantage of an opportunity offered at UPS. In their desire to train new drivers, UPS was offering several seasoned drivers the opportunity to take a week unpaid. We did it! Of course, we will need to pull from savings to cover the missed week of pay. However, we have plenty of time to add money to the bank! We continue to cherish these years with our boys. They are so energetic and full of wonder. They don't miss a beat and are little sponges soaking up all they can about life. We took a road trip and headed for Wilmington, North Carolina to visit Steve's brother Rich and his family {our sister-in-law Cameron, and our adorable niece Harbor}. We took the 'scenic' route! It was actually an enjoyable drive {both ways} and we had the chance to see some small towns in Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. We appreciate the opportunity to spend some time with our loved ones {xoxo}

During our extended vacation, we took a day to attend the Delaware State Fair in Harrington. It was about a 45 minute drive from Shady Lane. The boys really enjoyed the 4H displays and the livestock. We even sat under the 'Big Top' to watch some circus performers.
We enjoyed a beach day with my second cousins visiting from California. It was so much fun catching up with them, and my cousin Joanne, who is by far my oldest friend (we are less than 2 months apart in age).
Growing up, not a summer went by without an afternoon running in the sprinkler. I don't recall much about my childhood, but running through the sprinkler is one I will never forget. The cool water, the grass sticking on your feet, and the hours of laughter are memories I will carry with me forever. In an age of electronics & gadgets, I believe it is important to remember simple pleasures of your own childhood and allow our children to experience them as we did. Your children need your presence more than your presents. ~Jesse Jackson “Summer will end soon enough, and childhood as well.” ― George R.R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
