Steve and William took a trip to Port Ontario, NY, where they enjoyed salmon fishing. It was a 'bucket list' trip, allowing each of them to land a salmon. Thank you to our friend, Bill Shindle, for inviting them to go along. They stayed at Golden Fish cabins, cabin #2 with Bill, Bailey, Jim, and Dean. Pictured with Steve and William, a guy they met while fishing. After unsuccessfully landing a salmon after several hooks (and subsequent, break offs), this 'hero' handed over his fishing pole to let William so he could experience 'landing a salmon.'
I have no doubt this guy made William's trip unforgettable! Thank you! 15 years have passed since the day we said, ‘I do’, but still our love is strong and remains forever true. With strength drawn from God, His Word and from prayer, the years have only deepened the love that we both share. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. LOVE NEVER FAILS 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 *Read at our wedding on September 5, 2003 We celebrated fifteen years of marriage in Nashville, TN during the fall of 2018. Where we stayed: Evergreen Farm, 4412 Brick Church Pike, Whites Clay, TN
This quaint B&B is run by a wonderful German woman (Gisela) who baked fresh bread and delivered it to our door daily. Evergreen Farm is located about 20 minutes outside of #Nashville and it provided us with the quiet countryside retreat that we were craving. Where we visited: Johnny Cash Museum, Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Music City Walk of Fame Park, Ryman Auditorium, The Gulch, and Grand Ole Opry Backstage tour. How we got around: There are plenty of Uber and Lyft cars around, but we rented a car. We got lucky too; 2019 Chevy Camaro with less than 600 miles from Alamo! We had so much fun. It was easy getting in and out of the city and we always found a spot in the Library Parking Garage. Where we ate (and drank and ate and drank more): Luke's 32 Bridge Food + Drinks, Jason Aldean's Kitchen + Rooftop Bar, Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row, FGL House, Tootsies, Ole Red, Biscuit Love, Hattie B's, Loveless Cafe, Slim + Husky's, and Famous Saloon. You can literally eat and drink your way through this city. The whiskey is top notch (which is expected) and the biscuits are amazing. If you love country music, live music, history of music, eating, and drinking, this city is for you! When we return, we will absolutely visit Hattie B's (medium chicken and pimento mac n cheese and Loveless Cafe (biscuits and jam) again! So, what was my favorite part of the trip? Sounds silly, as there were many. But truly looking back, I loved the moment I looked at my husband while driving down Route 65, grinning ear to ear (and man, he has a beautiful smile). I asked what he was smiling about, thinking certainly he would say how fun it was to drive the Camaro. He said without hesitation, "I'm excited for our future. I can see it. You and me." Thank you Nashville for giving us a taste of our years to come . . . xoxo As imperceptibly as Grief
The Summer lapsed away – Too imperceptible at last To seem like Perfidy – A Quietness distilled As Twilight long begun, Or Nature spending with herself Sequestered Afternoon – The Dusk drew earlier in – The Morning foreign shone – A courteous, yet harrowing Grace, As Guest, that would be gone – And thus, without a Wing Or service of a Keel Our Summer made her light escape Into the Beautiful. -Emily Dickinson This year, we celebrated Father's Day at different times and in different locations; yet the sentiments remain the same. We are so blessed to have three special men in our lives.
October 2018 will mark 12 years since you left us. Coincidentally, it will be the one year anniversary since your beloved joined you.
This past Friday night was the first time I have seen you since you left. Of all things, you were on a horse. You were wearing a white t-shirt, tan colored hat, and glasses, much like the picture below. You had a white horse on a tether that followed you. The back of that horse sat empty. She was solid white. You didn't speak to me; you had a look of determination in your eyes. I knew you were on your way somewhere important. In my dream, you were off to collect Mom-mom from purgatory. ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................ As I excitedly shared the news with Mom early Saturday morning, I couldn't help feel amused at the content of the dream; you, two horses, and purgatory. I was so excited that I got to see you again, Pop-Pop. Most know, I am not a religious person by any means, but as years pass, I do feel my relationship with God growing. Mom-Mom, I hope you enjoyed your horseback ride! xoxo I had the honor of chaperoning Benjamin's 5th grade field trip to Washington, D.C. on Monday, May 14, 2018. It was my second time visiting DC, the first being with William in 2016. What an incredible city filled with so much history. Our group was small, which was nice, as it allowed us to cover over 10 miles in 8 hours. Way to go boys! Highlights included: Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, National Monument, Arlington Cemetery, Kennedy Grave sites, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Museum of American History, Museum of Natural History, the White House (from a distance), and the Reagan Building. The boys shared that their favorites parts were viewing artifacts in the Qrius lab in the Natural History museum, watching the changing of the guard at Arlington, and lunch. This was one of the best Friday nights I have had in a long time. A local group home, an invitation to play some 3 v 3, an evening to remember.
This spring we updated the back steps at the beach. They were too high and too narrow. While this is a temporary fix until we build our 3-season screen room, the steps are safer, sturdy, and will last for a few years. Thank you to our neighbors for the extra help! |
